Be’ah has started waste management operations in the remaining areas of Muscat governorate.

‘We have started replacing current bins with new ones that have been designed as per international standards in terms of capacity, maintenance, and ease of cleaning. The new bins have a monitoring system, which makes them easy to locate; they also have a larger capacity to accommodate waste according to the location. Furthermore, to ensure safety at night, the bins are equipped with reflectors,’ said Be’ah in an emailed reply to

Muscat Daily. ‘Each bin is covered in order to prevent insect breeding and animals from scattering waste all over the area.’

It said, ‘Be’ah started its waste management operations with the wilayat of Seeb first. In July 2019, we started work in Amerat wilayat and will gradually move to the other areas such as Muttrah, Muscat, Bausher and Quriyat.

‘The waste management services are managed by Averda, an internationally renowned waste management company. It is closely monitored by a specialised workforce from Be’ah.’

The waste management company also said the bins are kept 75m away from each residential unit to ensure that waste is disposed in the most efficient way.

‘The company is using new bins with the capacity of 2,400lt to minimise the number of waste collection points in populated areas. For the first time in Muscat, the operator will collect and transport waste through special trucks that have side-pull feature. Another special feature included gives an approximate weight of each bin with the waste during the collection. It also schedules the collection timings.’

With regard to collection of bulky items such as furniture, construction and demolition waste (C&D), green waste collection, etc it said, ‘A toll free call centre number (1881) has been provided for such services, which operates seven days a week from 7am to 6pm.’

The company has requested citizens to use the bins effectively. ‘We highly encourage citizens and residents to make sure to put waste in garbage bags, seal tightly and only then dump in the bin. Close the lid of the bin after use.’
