Omani researcher’s blog profiles sultanate’s history, heritage

- Our Correspondent

Imad bin Jassim al Bahrani, an Omani researcher, has started an initiative to highlight Oman’s history and heritage.

His blog has history books, research papers, documents, photographs and documentary films.

Speaking to Muscat Daily,

Bahrani who works in the Ministry of Heritage and Culture said, “The blog is first-of-its-kind in Omani history and has been well received by various groups and social media pioneers both in Oman and abroad. I have been working on the site since 2008.”

The blog URL is http://qal3ataltareekh.blogspot.com

The site highlights the history and heritage of Oman and helps researchers with any information relating to Oman. “Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation about the history of Oman.

“This site is a reliable source to know about Oman, in the light of many false information in cyberspace about the country’s history.”

He said that the site has several sections such as photos of Oman’s historical importance, pictures of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, historical maps and documents, Omani currencies, rare stamps and videos.

In addition, the site provides links to institutions, centres and journals related to Oman’s history and heritage. “It has an electronic bulletin (biannual) consisting of articles, studies, book presentations and abstracts of thesis related to the history and heritage of Oman.”

Bahrani said that the e-bulletin aims to highlight the history of Oman in the light of global changes. “The first e-bulletin was issued in June 2015 and the ninth in June 2019. Anyone can read and download the PDF file of bulletin at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wM19ZEcUJ0K29TsP02k3whmF3JDAM U7/view?usp=sharing.”

Talking about criteria to submit any historical Omani material on the site, he said, “The topics to be published must be related to Omani history only. The material submitted should not have been published anywhere and must be between 1,000 and 5,000 words.”

Bahrani said that the material submitted should have references and must be free of typographical and linguistic errors. Those interested can send the articles in an attached word file with a picture of the author to the following email ID: Imadalbahrani@gmail.com
