ISG celebrates 49th National Day of Oman

Indian School Ghubra (ISG) celebrated the 49th National Day of Oman with great excitement. The school premises were adorned with the colours of the Omani flag. The festoons and balloons and smiles on the faces of the students and staff made it known to everyone that the day was very special. The staff and students were seen exchanging greetings, spreading cheer all around.

A special assembly conducted, began with the singing of the Royal Anthem of Oman led by the Omani staff. The compere Hana Haris of class 10 dressed in traditiona­l attire, welcomed the gathering in Arabic and English. Ayesha Tarafdar and Farah Gayasuddin of class 10 spoke of the giant strides of progress made by the sultanate in all fields of human endeavour in the last 49 years.

A video presentati­on showcased the many landmarks and attraction­s of Oman while highlighti­ng the Omani way of life. Avantika Arvind of class 10 led the students of class 6 in a song sung in praise of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.

The students of class 8 also presented an Arabic song lead by Maryam Sayeeda. The Quick

Quizzing segment was dedicated to testing the students’ knowledge of Oman. The dance performed by the boys of class 6, attired in the national dress, twirling their staffs to rhythmic music captured the attention of the audience. The girls in attractive costumes of red, green and white also performed a captivatin­g dance.

The principal presented mementos to the Omani staff of the school while the students cheered enthusiast­ically. In her address, she greeted her Omani colleagues on this special day and said that she looked forward to the next year’s celebratio­ns when Oman would reach the landmark of 50 years. She requested the children to pray for the long and healthy life of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

She said that as many of the students are born and brought up here, they consider Oman their homeland. She concluded her address by leading the cheer for His Majesty the Sultan. The celebratio­ns continued with a lavish spread of traditiona­l Omani cuisine arranged for by the Omani staff. The festive spirit continued throughout the day.
