One dead in heavy rain, 56 rescued, says PACDA

A boy was killed and 56 people were rescued as heavy rainfall lashed many parts of the country last week.

Teams of the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA) rescued 56 people from flooded low-lying areas and vehicles stuck in overflowin­g wadis. ‘During last week’s rainfall, our hotline received 115 calls for help,’ PACDA stated.

Rescue teams of PACDA found the body of the missing boy in Wadi al Hoqain, Rustaq on Friday. PACDA stated, ‘Regarding the incident of a missing 15 year old child in Wadi al Hoqain, rescue teams were able to find his body.’

The child had gone missing in South Batinah near the overflowin­g Wadi al Hoqain due to heavy rainfall on Thursday.

Record rainfall in Nakhal

The wilayats of Amerat and Muscat recorded 18mm and 17mm rainfall respective­ly while Nakhal in South Batinah recorded over 50mm.

More rain in offing

There will be light rain in Muscat, North and South Batinah and along the coastal areas accompanie­d by hail, thundersho­wers, high waves and strong winds.

The rain will gradually move to North and South Sharqiyah,

Dakhliyah, and Dhahirah as well as Al Wusta and Dhofar.

An official from the Public Authority for Civil Aviation said,

“It is a normal phenomenon at this time of the year and this time it has been caused due to the formation of low pressure. From Tuesday, the skies will be clear.

Due to rain, the average day and night temperatur­e has dropped to 26°C and 20°C respective­ly.”
