49 Omanis walk 49km to mark 49th National Day
Forty-nine Omanis walked 49km in Samail on Friday as part of the 49th National Day celebrations.
Samail Club, in cooperation with Al Burj Adventure Team organised the 49km walk in honour of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
Speaking to Muscat Daily from Samail, Yaqoob bin Khalfan al Musallami, head of Al Burj Adventure Team, said, “Participants were divided into two groups. The first group took the Jila road to Samail Gate and the second took the Samail road passing through the Samail valley and beautiful landscape to reach Samail Gate. From there, all 49 participants walked together to reach Samail Club.”
Musallami, who headed the first group, said that all 49 participants completed the 49km walk with ease in around five hours. “All participants are avid walkers so we did not face any problem covering such a long distance.
We chose 49 participants and 49km walk to show our love to His Majesty the Sultan for the development march the country has seen in the last 49 years,” he said. “All participants were in high spirits while walking. Our group is always there to celebrate any national occasion in style. This is our way to express happiness in this peace-loving country. We pray to Allah the Almighty to grant our leader a long and healthy life.”
Naser al Musallami who led the second group, said, “All were happy to be part of the walk. We carried the message of love in honour of our leader His Majesty the Sultan. Everyone showed enthusiasm to take part once the initiative was announced.”
At the conclusion of the walk, participants were feted by Naser bin Naseer bin Mohammed al Qasmi, chairman of Samail Club, and Mohammad bin Khamis al Husseini, a member of Majlis A’Shura.
