Muscat – A tender of government treasury bills (issue number 087) was held at the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) this week. The total value of the allotted treasury bills amounted to RO46mn, for a maturity period of 28 days, from December 4, 2019 until January 1, 2020.

The average accepted price reached RO99.869 for every RO100 bill, and the minimum accepted price arrived at RO99.865. The average discount rate and the average yield reached 1.7088 per cent and 1.7110 per cent, respectively.

The interest rate on the repo operations with the CBO is 2.194 per cent for the period from December 3 to December 9, while the discount rate on the treasury bills discounting facility with the CBO is 2.944 per cent for the same period.

Treasury bills are short-term highly secured financial instruments issued by the Central Bank of Oman on behalf of the government.

These instruments help the licensed commercial banks to gainfully invest their surplus funds, with added advantage of ready liquidity through discounting and repurchase facilities offered by the central bank.
