MoAF grants over 100,000sq m land to Oman Dates Production and Packing Company
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) and Oman Dates Production and Packing Company signed a contract to grant the company a plot of over 100,000sq m in Ruwais, Barka.
The agreement was signed by H E Dr Ahmed bin Nasser al Bakri, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Salah bin Hilal al Ma’awali, Board Chairman of Oman Dates Production and Packing Company.
H E Dr Bakri said that Ruwais site in Barka is vital and a key logistics site allocated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to be the headquarters of the main factory for the production and packing of dates.
Ma’awali said that the company will be one of the leading companies in the field of date production with a capacity of up to 30,000 tonnes per year during the initial stage.
It will increase production in the final stage to 80,000 tonnes per year. He added that the company will hire 480 employees in the first stage. “We have six collection centres covering 95 per cent of the palm-planted agricultural areas in the sultanate.”
Ma’awali pointed that the company seeks to highlight the sultanate as the best producer of dates and that Omani dates adhere to the specifications and standards to be one of the finest international dates.
Oman has around 250 varieties of dates which are a great asset to the sultanate.
He added that the company will provide Omani dates in a modern way and it will follow the latest methods in marketing processing and highlighting the Omani product.
