Over 16 SMEs to take part in first camping exhibition on Dec 12, 13

As part of its plan to promote tourist sites in Oman, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) will launch the first camping exhibition at Muscat City Centre in Seeb on December 12 and 13.

Speaking to Muscat Daily Ahmed al Bahri, a member of the committee supervisin­g the exhibition, said, “The Ministry of Tourism in cooperatio­n with the Ministry of Environmen­t and Climate Affairs and the Royal Oman Police will launch the first camping exhibition at Muscat City Centre in December.

“The exhibition aims to support the camping sector in the sultanate and promote local tourism sites. It also aims to encourage more people to camp and inform them about the best places for the activity.”

Bahri said that more than 16 small and medium enterprise­s (SMEs) will participat­e in the exhibition and display products relevant to the camping sector.

“The SMEs will also guide visitors on the safety and security methods to be adopted while at camping sites.”

Listing out some of the interestin­g camping sites in the country Bahri said, “The sultanate has many camping sites such as Bidiyah, Jebel Akhdar, Jebel Shams and others. We call on citizens and residents to participat­e in the two-day exhibition, which will be held from 4pm to 10pm.”

Meanwhile, nature reserves in the sultanate witnessed a 25 per cent increase in visitors in 2018 compared to 2017.

According to the National Centre for Statistics and Informatio­n, 305,405 people visited nature reserves.

The figures reflect the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Tourism in promoting ecotourism in the sultanate.
