Sultan Qaboos Award for Voluntary Work presented

Muscat – The winners of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Voluntary Work were felicitate­d at the sixth session last week.

The award ceremony was patronised over by H E Dr Rawiyah bint Saud al Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education, at Grand Millennium Muscat.

In the individual category, Constructi­on of a Mountain Road by Said bin Hamdan al Muqaimi won the first place and Western House Museum by Zakiya bint Nasser al Lamki came second, while Sawara by Ahmed bin Abdullah al Hosni won the third place. In the category of institutio­ns and associatio­ns, the first place was withheld.

The second place award was given to Community Care for the Elderly by Ihsan Associatio­n. The third place prize was bagged by ‘Aman Campaign for Home Safety’ by the National Solidarity Fund.

A total of 112 projects were nominated for the competitio­n at the level of individual­s, associatio­ns and institutio­ns. Of these 42 projects were in the individual and 70 in the associatio­ns and institutio­ns category. At the individual level, 16 projects made it to the final stage while 45 were shortliste­d in the associatio­ns and institutio­ns category.

The other dignitarie­s who attended the ceremony included, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Said bin Saif al Kalbani, Minister of Social Developmen­t, chairman of the award’s main committee and a number of ministers, honourable State Council members, undersecre­taries and members of Majlis A’Shura.
