WHO meet­ing on NCDs and men­tal health from to­day

The sul­tanate will host the World Health Or­ga­ni­za­tion (WHO) Global Meet­ing on Non-com­mu­ni­ca­ble Dis­eases (NCDs) from De­cem­ber 9-12.

The of­fi­cial open­ing will be held on Tues­day, un­der the aus­pices of H H Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al Said, Min­is­ter of Her­itage and Cul­ture, at Mad­i­nat al Ir­fan The­atre, Oman Con­ven­tion & Ex­hi­bi­tion Cen­tre.

This is the first Global Meet­ing on NCDs since the 2018 UN High-Level Dec­la­ra­tion on Non­com­mu­ni­ca­ble Dis­eases and the 2019 UN High-Level Dec­la­ra­tion on Uni­ver­sal Health Care.

The con­fer­ence will com­prise ex­cit­ing and in­ter­ac­tive ple­nary and panel dis­cus­sions, while nu­mer­ous ini­tia­tives to pre­vent and con­trol NCDs will be launched.

A Walk the Talk Event, or­gan­ised by the WHO with the min­istries of Sports and Health at the Sul­tan Qa­boos Sports Com­plex will be held on Mon­day. The event will fea­ture Dr Te­dros Ad­hanom Ghe­breye­sus, WHO di­rec­tor gen­eral, along with their ex­cel­len­cies, min­is­ters and other high-level del­e­gates.
