Sumitomo develops AI-based technology to extend tyre life
Known for its pioneering innovations, Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. (SRI) has achieved yet another breakthrough in rubber technology that will allow it to extend a tyre’s new performance.
The ‘Tyre Leap AI Analysis’ technology is an artificial intelligence-based development. It incorporates real-world data on tyre raw materials together with advanced analytical data, to allow its technicians to predict more accurately the properties of compounded rubber after use. Implementing this ‘groundbreaking’ technology will allow the company to accelerate the development of ‘Performance Sustaining Technology,’ a key component of its ‘Smart Tyre Concept.’ This will help develop high-performance tyres that provide both safety and peace-of-mind.
This technology is all about the structure of compounded rubber. It comprises a package of materials such as polymers (natural and synthetic rubber), reinforcing agents (such as carbon black and silica), mixing agents and additive, to evaluate the myriad ‘interlocking’ factors related to the proportions of these various materials, the structures that they form in combination and so forth.
