Badr al Sa­maa Barka or­gan­ises CME on Di­ag­nos­tic and Ther­a­peu­tic En­doscopy

Badr al Sa­maa Hos­pi­tal, Barka in its pur­suit of im­part­ing med­i­cal ed­u­ca­tion on reg­u­lar ba­sis, con­ducted Con­tin­u­ing Med­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion (CME) on an im­por­tant topic in Gas­troen­terol­ogy, En­doscopy in Daily Prac­tice. It was very a valu­able for the med­i­cal fra­ter­nity from in and around of Al Bati­nah re­gions to learn about this crit­i­cal sub­ject and es­tab­lish a right ap­proach in di­ag­nos­ing crit­i­cal ill­nesses with the help of gas­troscopy and colonoscop­y. Badr al Sa­maa Hos­pi­tal, Barka pos­sesses ad­vanced fa­cil­i­ties for en­doscopy. The CME which was at­tended by over 100 doc­tors was ac­cred­ited by OMSB.

Dr Raveen­dran V A, Spe­cial­ist In­ternist wel­comed the del­e­gates and Dr Bin­ish Sreeku­mar, Spe­cial­ist In­ternist in­tro­duced Dr Nikhil Su­raj, the main speaker of the event. Dr Nikhil Su­raj holds DM de­gree in Gas­troen­terol­ogy with out­stand­ing ex­pe­ri­ence of 15 years in gas­troen­terol­ogy prac­tice.

In his pre­sen­ta­tion on En­doscopy, Dr Nikhil Su­raj said, “A non-sur­gi­cal pro­ce­dure, En­doscopy is used to study the is­sues in di­ges­tive tract. An en­do­scope is a flex­i­ble scope hav­ing a light and camera at­tached to its tip, doc­tor views the footage from the camera on TV screens and it helps di­ag­nos­ing the cause of stom­ach pain, ul­cers, gas­tri­tis, or difficulty swal­low­ing, di­ges­tive tract bleed­ing, changes in bowel habits (chronic con­sti­pa­tion or di­ar­rhoea) and polyps or growths in the colon. Polyps are also called as the seeds of can­cer, hence early de­tec­tion of polyps and its re­moval be­come very im­por­tant.”

He also said that en­doscopy is not just a di­ag­nos­tic pro­ce­dure but a ther­a­peu­tic pro­ce­dure as well and we can per­form im­por­tant pro­ce­dures like bal­lon-di­lataion and polypec­tomy. He said Badr al Sa­maa Hos­pi­tal, Barka has the most ad­vanced di­ag­nos­tic and ther­a­peu­tic en­do­scopic fa­cil­i­ties and a well es­tab­lished gas­troen­terol­ogy depart­ment. The CME pre­sen­ta­tion was fol­lowed by lively in­ter­ac­tive ques­tion and an­swer ses­sion.
