Elim­i­na­tion of mother to child trans­mis­sion of HIV ad­dressed

Mus­cat - A work­shop on Elim­i­na­tion of Mother-to-Child Trans­mis­sion (EMCT) of Hu­man Im­mun­od­e­fi­ciency Virus (HIV) and syphilis was held at the Min­istry of Health’s (MoH) Direc­torate Gen­eral of Dis­ease Sur­veil­lance & Con­trol (DGDSC).

The direc­torate was rep­re­sented by the De­part­ment of Com­mu­ni­ca­ble Dis­ease Con­trol at the Hol­i­day Mus­cat Ho­tel on Tues­day. The work­shop was held un­der the aus­pices of H E Dr Mo­hammed Saif al Hosni, Un­der­sec­re­tary for Health Af­fairs at MoH with the par­tic­i­pa­tion of health and med­i­cal cadres.

The work­shop aimed at in­tro­duc­ing the ser­vices pro­vided to the woman’s pro­gramme from preg­nancy to post­par­tum, high­light­ing the mech­a­nism of val­i­da­tion process, in ad­di­tion to the meth­ods ap­plied in di­ag­no­sis, treat­ment, and fol­low-up.

The work­shop also out­lined the Pre­ven­tion of Mother to Child Trans­mis­sion (PMTCT) of HIV ser­vices in Oman, man­age­ment of HIV and syphilis dur­ing preg­nancy. Case stud­ies were also dis­cussed.
