Nepalese foreign secretary meets top Omani officials to discuss relations
Nepalese Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi met Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidi, Secretary General in Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in Muscat, on Monday morning. They discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to the promotion of bilateral relations.
Expressing happiness over the cordial relations existing between the two countries, they underlined the importance of exchanging high level visits for strengthening bilateral relations.
Bairagi stated that Nepal has very good legal and regulatory architecture for foreign investment and keen to forge strong economic partnership with Oman for the development of infrastructures, energy and other sectors in Nepal.
Bairagi underscored that the conclusion of bilateral labour agreement and agreement on visa waiver for the holders of diplomatic and official passports would further enhance the ties between the two countries.
He also hoped that the two countries would soon convene the meeting of bilateral consultation mechanism. Establishing a permanent diplomatic presence in Nepal by Oman would further contribute to our friendly relations, said the Foreign Secretary.
The Foreign Secretary also admired the peace, stability, progress and development of Oman. Receiving Bairagi in his office, Sayyid Badr recalled the visit to Oman by the then Prime Minister of Nepal in 2017. He responded positively on the proposal to enhance bilateral economic partnership and promote investment from Oman in Nepal. While Bairagi was accompanied by H E Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Ambassador of Nepal to Oman, Sayyid Badr was accompanied by H E Khalifa bin Ali bin Issa al Harthy, Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs and Sheikh Hilal bin Marhoon al Maamari, Head of West Asia Department in MoFA.
Bairagi meets H E Rumhi
Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi had a meeting with H E Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhi on Monday morning too.
In the meeting, they held discussions on promoting bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of energy sector development and other industries of Nepal.
Bairagi highlighted the opportunities available for foreign investors in Nepal, stating that Nepal has created a comprehensive and sound legal framework for attracting foreign investment.
Recalling establishment of the Embassy of Nepal in Oman in 2013, he hoped that the Sultanate of Oman would also consider positively to establish residential diplomatic mission in Nepal, reflecting the spirit of evolving relationship between the two countries.
Receiving Bairagi in his office, H E Dr Rumhi said that Oman is positive on developing specific plans to invest in Nepal, including through joint ventures in collaboration with national and private investment agencies of other countries.
Bairagi was accompanied by H E Sarmila in the meeting.
Bairgai arrived in Oman on Sunday evening for addressing the interaction programme of the Ambassadors of Nepal in MENA region, along with having bilateral meetings with the high-level officials of Oman.
