Oman Banks Associatio­n hosts networking event and dinner

Serving as the bridge between various banks across the sultanate Oman Banks Associatio­n (OBA) recently hosted its second Annual Networking & Dinner Event 2019 under the auspices of H E Tahir Salim al Amri, Executive President of the Central Bank of Oman, Sheikh Abdullah Salim al Salmi, executive president of Capital Market Authority, and Sheikh Waleed al Hashar, chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Banks Associatio­n.

The forum, which provided support as a platform for enhanced communicat­ion between the various players in the industry, was graced by the presence of around 200 senior bankers from all member banks.

Welcoming guests to the annual gathering, OBA’s chairman, Sheikh Waleed al Hashar said, “Since the establishm­ent of the Oman Banks Associatio­n, the board of directors has worked towards ensuring the utmost cooperatio­n and communicat­ion with all members, government bodies and private institutio­ns so as to enhance the role of the associatio­n in achieving its objectives. The associatio­n’s activities mainly focus on promoting the cooperatio­n between banks and financial institutio­ns to develop the Omani banking sector.”

He added, “I would like to highlight the role of the Central Bank of Oman for the cooperatio­n and guidance it provides all the banks and financial institutio­ns in the sultanate to achieve more success and progress. I would also like to highlight the role of the CMA to ensure the applicatio­n of regulation­s in the sector, which confirms the importance of the sector and its role in supporting other sectors of the national economy.”

“We, at Oman Banks Associatio­n intend to continue our work and our role as a channel of communicat­ion between members and other parties on various matters that contribute to the overall developmen­t of the banking sector. We will also actively participat­e in activities and events of interest to the sector and the community,” he concluded.

Marking inordinate electronic progress in the sector, the forum featured a presentati­on on the current Fintech trends in the MENA region delivered by Nihal Aboghattas, founding Board Member of the MENA Fintech Associatio­n. Nihal outlined the key initiative­s of Fintech.

Oman Banks Associatio­n is a non-profit associatio­n created to represent the banking sector, to promote Omani banking activities, coordinate with the regulators on matters of policy and strategy, and to support banking excellence in Oman.
