Shop in Dhank fined RO2,000 for selling old tyres as new

Muscat Daily - - NATION -

The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has said the Court of First Instance in Dhank, Dhahirah governorate recently ruled against a commercial establishment that sold counterfeit goods. The court fined the firm RO2,000 and ordered confiscation of fake tyres.

An official source at PACP said, “The Directorate of Consumer Protection in Dhahirah had received a report about a shop selling old tyres as new ones after tampering with their production dates. The tyres were in unusable condition even before they were tampered with.”

The official said that PACP officials visited the shop and checked the tyres. “After inspection, it was found that the manufacturing dates were tampered with and the thickness of the rubber was not as per approved standards.”

PACP urges suppliers to adhere to transparency as well as provide consumers with correct information about the goods or services in a manner that guarantees their safety in order to avoid legal accountability.
