With 2019 ending today, by the grace of God, it was a wonderful year for me. I would always cherish the good memories. There are, however, huge challenges ahead. The best part is at the beginning of every year, I say that this year would be the best in my life.

The year was full of events. Lots of things have changed globally and in Oman. 2020 is expected to continue this trend with challenges requiring solutions to be implemented. The main challenges are employment opportunities and economic diversification.

Year 2019 witnessed disturbances in many parts of the world and not many peace initiatives were forthcoming. Environmentally too, the year was not good for the Earth with the formal announcement by the US to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. Hopefully, 2020 will bring a new line of thinking on the subject, when a new administration takes over there.

A World Bank report states that the economy is likely to grow at a faster pace against a marginal decline in 2019. While 2019 has been challenging for the Mideast due to geopolitical tensions, there are rooms for sustainable improvement in Oman through economic diversification, tourism and Tanfeedh initiatives.

2019 has been a year of hope for the world. For the GCC, there were lots of promises amid turmoil especially in the oil and gas and petrochemical industry. I hope 2020 will be a year of change. Tremendous challenges await the world and the GCC.

I think 2019 had been a great year for innovation. Many international companies took part in innovative projects converting diesel and petrol engines into electric ones which will be cheap and curb pollution. I hope 2020 will be about bringing this innovation into implementation.

There are many negative things which happened in 2019 but you can always look forward to 2020 in a positive manner. I hope 2020 will be the start of a new era for development and modernity, advanced technology and global harmony among people. I expect 2020 to be a special one for everyone and a year for world peace.

I would say that 2019 was a competitive year. I hope that 2020 would be more easier and better than 2019. Many things could have been done this year and I hope this would be achieved in 2020. I hope 2020 would be a better year.

Muthumari Pandian Homemaker

2019 was great for many innovative implementations in Oman, especially in the education sector. I hope 2020 will be a productive and progressive year for Oman. I think 2020 will be the beginning of Oman to emerge as a nation of innovation.

Seema Mallya Private sector employee

This has been a great year for Oman as it did exceedingly well in the tourism sector. We see the country moving out of the oil dependency which was the case earlier. If the country does well it’s a good year for its residents and citizens. I hope 2020 gives Oman a better and bigger platform to showcase itself globally.
