MSM index rises 0.44%; volumes down
Muscat - The benchmark index of the Muscat Securities Market (MSM) rose by 0.44 per cent to close at 3,998.88 points on Wednesday.
Trading activity deteriorated from the previous session as turnover declined 16.8 per cent to RO2.63 and volumes fell 22.18 per cent to 16.13mn shares.
The gains in the main index were supported by all the subindices. Financial Index rose 0.63 per cent, Industrial Index climbed 1.72 per cent and Services Index rose 0.63 per cent.
The MSM Shariah index closed up by 0.81 per cent at 540.41 points. Total Return index closed up by 0.44 per cent at 4,262.65 points.
Market breadth remained highly positive as 22 companies closed up, while five companies closed down. The rest 11 traded stocks closed flat for the day.
Top gainers were Muscat Finance (7.84 per cent), Al Sharqiya Investment (7.79 per cent), Al Jazeera Steel (7.63 per cent) and Gulf Investment Services (7.58 per cent). Top losers were Oman Fisheries (-1.24 per cent), Sharqiyah Desalination (-0.76 per cent), Sembcorp Salalah (-0.74 per cent) and Ominvest (-0.59 per cent).
