Oman women depart for four-nation T20I meet
Oman women's cricket team captain Vaishali Jesrani is hopeful that her team will show 'positive intent' during the four-nation Quadrangular T20I Tournament, which will be held in Doha, Qatar, from January 17-21.
The tournament approved by the ICC, features hosts Qatar, Oman, China and Kuwait, and will be played at the Asian Town Stadium in Doha's industrial area. The team left for Doha on Wednesday.
Vaishali said, “All the teams are competitive and we are going to play each game with a positive intent. Winning and losing is part of the journey but it will be our endeavor to learn from the experience and we will try to make an impact on the tournament.”
She added, “We have a good bunch of talented players who are keen to work hard and prove themselves in match situations.
Some of the girls in the current squad toured United Kingdom last year and learned a lot. Our recent training sessions and practice matches against the touring U15 Stallions boys team from UAE last month have also helped the girls to improve.”
The long-serving captain said, “We have got a fantastic opportunity to play T20Is in Doha. It is extremely important that our girls keep getting such opportunities. After the Quadrangular tournament, we will be playing a bilateral series against Germany’s team in February.”
Oman face Qatar in the opener on January 17 and meet China the next day followed by their final group game against Kuwait on January 19. The semifinals will be held on January 20 followed by the third place playoff and the final on January 21.
