ROP warns against fake online operations

Muscat Daily - - NATION -

The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations has said that it has come across several electronic fraud cases.

An ROP official said, “Citizens and residents should verify the identity of those they trade with and that of the website. All online business operations should also be conducted keeping in mind the Internet safety rules.”

The ROP has time and again issued warnings regarding fraud online transactions and the safety guidelines to follow. “It is not safe to initiate an online transaction with an individual or an institution whose identity cannot be verified. People should also be wary of online deals, initiated through social media platforms, as it has come to the notice that they are done by fraudsters operating outside the sultanate.”

The official also warned against falling prey to websites issuing fake visas.

“Get the electronic visa only from ROP’s official portal (https://evisa.rop.gov.om). This will prevent you from exposing yourself to the risks of unauthorised websites.”
