Duqm Refinery project 45% complete
The construction and development works at Oman’s ambitious Duqm Refinery project has been progressing well and the project achieved a 45 per cent completion target at the end of 2019.
In a video posted on its Twitter account last week, Duqm Refinery & Petrochemical Industries Co provided an update on the progress of the project.
As per the company, the construction activities on the project have accelerated from March 2019 onwards, evident from the fact that till the first quarter of 2019 only 6 per cent of the work was completed. ‘And now, the project has witnessed a completion of 45 per cent of overall development.’
Revealing more about the progress on the project, Duqm Refinery said so far over 189,000 tonnes of concrete has been poured, over 42,000 tonnes of steel structure have been built. Over 44,000m3 building structures have been erected for the project, and over 29,000m long pipelines have laid in the project.
The Duqm Refinery project has also been responsible for awarding US$109mn worth of contracts to small and medium enterprises. Besides this, the project has also sourced goods and services worth US$1.5bn from local Omani vendors.
Touted as one of the most ambitious project, Duqm Refinery is a venture between Oman Oil Company and Kuwait Petroleum International.
Spread over an area of over 900 hectares, the multi-billion dollar project with the capacity to refine 230,000 barrels of oil per day is expected to form the cornerstone of the Duqm Special Economic Zone and Oman’s next industrial centre.
The initial work on the Duqm Refinery project began in 2018, and the whole project is expected to be completed in 2022.
