Duqm Re­fin­ery project 45% com­plete

The constructi­on and devel­op­ment works at Oman’s am­bi­tious Duqm Re­fin­ery project has been pro­gress­ing well and the project achieved a 45 per cent com­ple­tion tar­get at the end of 2019.

In a video posted on its Twit­ter ac­count last week, Duqm Re­fin­ery & Petro­chem­i­cal In­dus­tries Co pro­vided an up­date on the progress of the project.

As per the com­pany, the constructi­on ac­tiv­i­ties on the project have ac­cel­er­ated from March 2019 on­wards, ev­i­dent from the fact that till the first quar­ter of 2019 only 6 per cent of the work was com­pleted. ‘And now, the project has wit­nessed a com­ple­tion of 45 per cent of over­all devel­op­ment.’

Re­veal­ing more about the progress on the project, Duqm Re­fin­ery said so far over 189,000 tonnes of con­crete has been poured, over 42,000 tonnes of steel struc­ture have been built. Over 44,000m3 build­ing struc­tures have been erected for the project, and over 29,000m long pipe­lines have laid in the project.

The Duqm Re­fin­ery project has also been re­spon­si­ble for award­ing US$109mn worth of con­tracts to small and medium en­ter­prises. Be­sides this, the project has also sourced goods and ser­vices worth US$1.5bn from lo­cal Omani ven­dors.

Touted as one of the most am­bi­tious project, Duqm Re­fin­ery is a ven­ture be­tween Oman Oil Com­pany and Kuwait Pe­tro­leum In­ter­na­tional.

Spread over an area of over 900 hectares, the multi-bil­lion dol­lar project with the ca­pac­ity to re­fine 230,000 bar­rels of oil per day is ex­pected to form the corner­stone of the Duqm Special Economic Zone and Oman’s next in­dus­trial cen­tre.

The ini­tial work on the Duqm Re­fin­ery project be­gan in 2018, and the whole project is ex­pected to be com­pleted in 2022.
