Sri Lanka to probe aircraft deal
Colombo, Sri Lanka - Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa ordered an investigation on Sunday into a multi-billion dollar aircraft purchase, days after Airbus settled corruption probes.
A French court has approved a deal allowing Airbus to pay US$4bn in fines to Britain, France and the US to settle cases. One of the allegations cited in a judgment and released by a London court concerned the purchase of aircraft by SriLankan Airlines.
Investigators had accused Airbus of failing to prevent persons associated with it from bribing directors or employees of the airline to ‘retain business or advantage’.
