Fo­rum stresses on boost­ing com­pe­ti­tion

Kuwait City, Kuwait - The Com­pe­ti­tion Pro­tec­tion and Monopoly Preven­tion Cen­tre (CPMPC) par­tic­i­pated in the first Gulf Com­pe­ti­tion Agen­cies Con­fer­ence in Kuwait. The con­fer­ence was held un­der the ti­tle ‘Com­pe­ti­tion pol­icy to­wards new hori­zons’.

Or­gan­ised by the Kuwaiti Com­pe­ti­tion Pro­tec­tion Agency, in co­op­er­a­tion with the World Bank, it sought to sup­port as­pects of co­op­er­a­tion and com­mu­ni­ca­tion with in­ter­na­tional and re­gional or­gan­i­sa­tions and rel­e­vant agen­cies in the GCC coun­tries. In ad­di­tion, ex­chang­ing ex­per­tise and in­for­ma­tion in the field of com­pe­ti­tion poli­cies, op­por­tu­ni­ties and chal­lenges fac­ing the GCC coun­tries were also on the agenda.

The con­fer­ence stressed the im­por­tance of estab­lish­ing a com­pe­ti­tion net­work for the GCC coun­tries in or­der to ex­change in­for­ma­tion pe­ri­od­i­cally among var­i­ous com­pet­i­tive agen­cies in a man­ner that sup­ports the work of these in­sti­tu­tions.

The par­tic­i­pants rec­om­mended the ne­ces­sity of hold­ing an an­nual meet­ing to dis­cuss the most im­por­tant is­sues and how to an­a­lyse them legally and eco­nom­i­cally. The im­por­tance of work­ing on joint stud­ies at the re­gional level in sec­tors of mu­tual in­ter­est was also dis­cussed.
