Mus­cat, So­har to be de­vel­oped as smart cities

As part of the Oman Vi­sion 2040, a pact was signed on Sun­day to de­velop mu­nic­i­pal ser­vices and make Mus­cat and So­har smart and sus­tain­able us­ing IT so­lu­tions and ser­vices.

H E Eng Isam al Zad­jali, Chair­man of Mus­cat Mu­nic­i­pal­ity and Sheikh Talal bin Said al Ma­mari, CEO of Oman­tel, signed the agree­ment, in the pres­ence of Ab­dul­salam bin Mo­hammed al Mur­shidi, Chair­man of the Gov­ern­ing Coun­cil of Oman­tel.

Un­der the agree­ment, many so­lu­tions for ICT and smart city ser­vices will be pro­vided in the mu­nic­i­pal sec­tor. This is in ad­di­tion to in­tro­duc­ing the blockchain tech­nol­ogy and smart cloud ser­vices to in­te­grate them in the man­age­ment sys­tem of cus­tomer re­la­tion.

H E Eng Zad­jali said that smart cities will pro­vide the pop­u­lace with many mu­nic­i­pal ser­vices. “The agree­ment pro­vides many in­no­va­tive so­lu­tions that will im­prove the qual­ity of mu­nic­i­pal in­fra­struc­ture ser­vices to save time, ef­fort and cost.”

Speak­ing on the oc­ca­sion, Mur­shidi said that this will re­sult in a big leap in e-ser­vices which will be the im­pe­tus for us in Oman­tel to de­velop sim­i­lar so­lu­tions for smart cities in the sul­tanate.

Ma­mari said that the de­vel­op­ment of tele­com ser­vices has re­sulted in a big break­through in this field.

Dr Ammar al Obaidani, pres­i­dent - com­mer­cial at Blockchain Oman said that col­lab­o­ra­tion with Oman­tel will re­sult in a new dig­i­tal ex­pe­ri­ence in the sul­tanate, thus pro­mot­ing the Fourth In­dus­trial Revo­lu­tion.
