Muscat, Sohar to be developed as smart cities
As part of the Oman Vision 2040, a pact was signed on Sunday to develop municipal services and make Muscat and Sohar smart and sustainable using IT solutions and services.
H E Eng Isam al Zadjali, Chairman of Muscat Municipality and Sheikh Talal bin Said al Mamari, CEO of Omantel, signed the agreement, in the presence of Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, Chairman of the Governing Council of Omantel.
Under the agreement, many solutions for ICT and smart city services will be provided in the municipal sector. This is in addition to introducing the blockchain technology and smart cloud services to integrate them in the management system of customer relation.
H E Eng Zadjali said that smart cities will provide the populace with many municipal services. “The agreement provides many innovative solutions that will improve the quality of municipal infrastructure services to save time, effort and cost.”
Speaking on the occasion, Murshidi said that this will result in a big leap in e-services which will be the impetus for us in Omantel to develop similar solutions for smart cities in the sultanate.
Mamari said that the development of telecom services has resulted in a big breakthrough in this field.
Dr Ammar al Obaidani, president - commercial at Blockchain Oman said that collaboration with Omantel will result in a new digital experience in the sultanate, thus promoting the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
