Germany women complete T20I series whitewash

Germany women completed a series whitewash on Saturday when they defeated Oman by 23 runs in the fourth and final T20I match at Amerat.

The visiting side had won all the matches comfortabl­y, starting with an impressive 115-run win in the opener on February 4.

Germany won the next game by six wickets while on Friday, they recorded a 19-run victory with the hosts crossing the 100-run mark for the first time in three games.

Oman was bowled out for 57 in the opener and managed 99 in the second game.

In the penultimat­e match, chasing 125 for win, Oman raised hopes of a win with an unbeaten 36 by Javed Hira taking the team to 105 for nine in the stipulated overs.

On Saturday, in the final T20I match, the hosts, once again, displayed a spirited fightback. Batting first, Germany notched up 128 for six with Stephanie Frohnmayer top-scoring with 35 and captain Anuradha Doddaballa­pur making 27. Nikhita Jagdish picked two wickets.

In reply, Oman batswomen - Javed Hira (18), captain Vaishali Jesrani (17), Priyanka Mendonca (16) and Fiza (16) – made decent contributi­ons before the hosts were restricted to 105 for seven.

It was the second successive day that the Omani batswomen crossed the 100-run total mark, a marked improvemen­t against a much experience­d and higher-ranked opponent.

Javed Hira was Oman's best run-getter in the series with a total of 69 while Germany's Janet Ronalds was the highest scorer with a total of 142, which included an unbeaten 71.

Anna Healey was the most successful bowler in the series with six wickets while Snehal Nair had the maximum four wickets for Oman in the series. Brief scores: Germany 128-6 (Stephanie 35, Anuradha 27, Janet 15; Nikhita 2-18, Sani Zehra 1-29) beat Oman 105-7 (Fiza 16, Vaishali 17, Priyanka 16, Hira 18; Stephanie 2-19).
