Workshop held to train health workers in handling nCoV cases

A workshop to update the health workers on the latest developmen­ts regarding the Novel Coronaviru­s (2019-nCov) was held at the Oman College of Health Sciences in Wattayah on Monday.

The workshop was organised by the Directorat­e General for Health Services (DGHS) of Muscat governorat­e, represente­d by the Private Health Establishm­ents Department.

More than 400 participan­ts from various medical fields and allied health profession­als from the private sector attended the workshop. It aimed to raise awareness among the health workers on the apt medical response for nCoV and the precaution­ary measures to be adopted.

The delegates were also informed of the working mechanism to be followed to detect and diagnose the disease. In addition, the workshop highlighte­d the issues of referring suspected cases from the private to the government health institutio­ns for health check-ups and receiving the required appropriat­e healthcare. The symptoms, diagnosis, and prevention methods for nCoV were also stressed on at the workshop. Moreover, several topics were discussed related to the disease’s epidemiolo­gical situation globally.

National preparedne­ss and response plans at various levels and epidemiolo­gical surveillan­ce mechanism were also reviewed.

Dr Tahira bint Mohammed Ali, director of the Private Health Establishm­ents, said that the workshop was part of the ministry’s efforts to prepare itself in handling 2019-nCoV outbreak.
