Shotokan Karate Center’s 6th championsh­ip ends

The 6th National Karate Championsh­ip organised by the Shotokan Karate Center came to an end last week at Al Amal Sport Club Hall in Ghala, Muscat. The championsh­ip was organised under supervisio­n of Muscat Sports Club and the Oman Karate Committee and Oman Committee for Dumb and Deaf.

Around 350 players from 26 clubs, centres and private academies took part in the championsh­ip.

The closing ceremony was conducted under the auspices of Sheikh Salem bin Hamed al Mahrooqi, Shura Council member, and the representa­tive of the walayat of Adam at the presence of the Omani Karate Committee member Humood bin Salem al Tooqi, Nassr bin Hamed al Hassani, Muscat Administra­tion Board member, and the general supervisor of age groups.

The championsh­ip was really exciting due to the wide participat­ion of a great number of players from various clubs in all parts of Oman, in addition to the Dumb and Deaf team from Al Amal Sport Club. Also clubs from other countries took part in the championsh­ip such as Ahli Youth Club from the UAE, the Internatio­nal Sport Center from Qatar, Ismaeliya Sport Establishm­ent from Egypt and Poshido Karate Club from Cameroon.

All players were divided according to their weight and age groups in kata and kumite in the championsh­ip competitio­ns.

During the championsh­ip a course was conducted for national, internatio­nal and continenta­l coaches and referees.

The competitio­ns started in the morning with female categories, followed by male categories for younger groups before the open events.

After that Aikido Academy demonstrat­ed Aikido art.

Finally all participan­ts were honoured including the first three winners of kata and kumite. At the end, cups were handed over to the first four winning teams, Shabab Alahli, SKC, Shitoriyu and The Champ Center respective­ly.

The head of SKC, Sensei Nawaz Mukeri handed a shield over to the ceremony sponsor.

Also, two shields were handed over to the Omani Karate Committee and Muscat Sports Club.

The organising committee expressed its thanks to Al Amal Sport Club, Child Dentist Centre, Aikido Academy, Second Cup, Mazoon Dairy Company, Alainakawi Medical Centre and the Omani Women’s Associatio­n in the walayat of Amerat for their participat­ion and contributi­on as sponsors in the championsh­ip.
