ISG alumnus Suraj Jog awarded Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship

An alumnus of Indian School Ghubra (ISG), Suraj Sanjay Jog was part of a duo who has been awarded the prestigious Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship for their work on enabling self driving cars to see in fog and bad weather by enhancing the resolution of radar imaging.

The Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship is one of the most selective programmes in which teams of graduate students from North America’s top 24 universities in engineering apply. Of the 188 eligible teams, the project of Jog and his team member Junfeng Guan from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign were selected for the fellowship.

The pair’s advisor and Coordinated Science Laboratory (CSL) faculty member, Haitham al Hassanieh is reported to have said that Jog and Guan are using AI to enhance the resolution of radar images and have managed to build the first system that can achieve such high quality results.

Jog excelled in academics throughout his schooling in ISG. He was ranked 24th in the Joint

Engineering Examination (JEE).

Jog did Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. He did post graduation in engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. In 2018, he was awarded the Gold Medal in the research students’ competition held as part of the SIGCOMM Conference which took place in Budapest, Hungary.

SIGCOMM is the flagship annual conference of the Special Interest Group on Data Communication (SIGCOMM).
