India’s active cases 13% of total infections: Ministry
New Delhi, India - India’s total active COVID-19 cases stands at 883,185 - nearly one-eighth or 12.65 per cent of the total number of cases across the country, federal Health Ministry said on Saturday.
The total number of recovered patients is 5,988,822, the ministry said, as the country’s death from the virus crossed 100,000 mark two days back.
Across the world 1,063,766 people have died of the coronavirus since it first emerged in China late last year, according to an AFP tally at 1900 GMT Friday based on official sources.
Almost 37mn cases have been officially diagnosed.
The US has the highest death toll, with 212,789, followed by Brazil with 148,957, India 106,490, Mexico 83,096 and Britain 42,679, AFP reported.
Indian ministry report on Saturday said that about 82,753 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, whereas 73,272
new cases have been confirmed. The national recovery rate has progressed to 85.81 per cent.
About 18 states and union territories have recorded a recovery rate of more than the national average, while 76 per cent of the new recovered cases are concentrated in ten states or union territories.
Western state of Maharashtra continues to be the country's
top contributor to the number of new cases and recoveries. It reported around 12,000 new cases in the last 24 hours, with 17,323 single-day recoveries, followed by Karnataka, which reported nearly 11,000 new cases and 9,091 recoveries.
India’s capital New Delhi recorded 2,860 new cases with 3,098 people getting cured.
