As a result of stricter control on movement, specially during the night, the number of new COVID-19 cases has slowly begun to come down. It has also resulted in a significant decrease in the number of patients with the disease in the intensive care unit (ICU) at The Royal Hospital.

“The night-time lockdown has reduced the COVID-19 patients in the ICU at The Royal Hospital. Before the Supreme Committee’s decision to prevent movement at night, there were around 50 COVID-19 patients in the ICU. It has now decreased to 40 cases,” Dr Hisham Abdullah al Dahab, consultant doctor of internal medicine at the hospital, told Oman TV in an interview.

He added, “The prohibition of movement at night achieved positive indicators.”

As of Wednesday, a total of 480 patients were admitted in health institutions, including 198 in ICUs. This is the first time, since September 29, that the number of cases in ICUs has come down below 200.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health (MoH) confirmed 451 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total to 111,484. The number of deaths was 15.

The number of those who have recovered has also increased by 418.

‘The number of recoveries has increased to 97,367 while the number of deaths has reached 1,137,’ an MoH statement said.

Dr Saad Saeed al Jumaa, an emergency consultant at The Royal Hospital, said, “Those who have recovered from COVID-19 are still suffering from some symptoms such as lethargy, loss of appetite and weakness. The pandemic is also affecting the medical staff psychologically.”

The Supreme Committee calls on everyone, especially young people, to fully adhere to all preventive measures at the individual and collective levels, and stop all family and social gatherings.

To check the spread of the disease, MoH advises all citizens and residents to continue washing hands with water and soap, avoid touching the face, nose, mouth and eyes, and follow healthy habits when coughing and sneezing.
