Omanisation in state firms discussed
The Ministry of Labour, in cooperation with the Oman Investment Authority, held a meeting with CEOs of government firms to discuss prioritising recruiting Omanis in leadership and supervisory roles in government companies. Plans for the replacement of expatriates with Omani manpower were also discussed.
The meeting was chaired by H E Dr Mahad bin Said bin Ali Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, who stressed the need to accelerate the replacement of the expatriate workforce by the national workforce, and called on the importance of training them on the job.
The minister affirmed that the initiative aims to overcome difficulties, provide the necessary facilities and simplify procedures to enhance the contribution of government companies in providing new jobs for Omanis.
Officials in government companies expressed their willingness to present replacement and follow-up plans to provide job opportunities for the national workforce and contribute to the stability, support and regulation of the labour market.
The meeting also discussed the difficulties and challenges faced by companies and the private sector in light of the economic conditions to find possible solutions and facilitate procedures that require regulations and renewal in private sector establishments.
The meeting also reviewed ways to enhance cooperation between the ministry and the firms towards augmenting productivity.
Besides replacing expats, it was proposed to focus on the employment of Omanis with specialist or technical qualifications in a manner that ensures the accomplishment of Oman Vision 2040 goals.
