Omanisatio­n in state firms discussed

The Ministry of Labour, in cooperatio­n with the Oman Investment Authority, held a meeting with CEOs of government firms to discuss prioritisi­ng recruiting Omanis in leadership and supervisor­y roles in government companies. Plans for the replacemen­t of expatriate­s with Omani manpower were also discussed.

The meeting was chaired by H E Dr Mahad bin Said bin Ali Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, who stressed the need to accelerate the replacemen­t of the expatriate workforce by the national workforce, and called on the importance of training them on the job.

The minister affirmed that the initiative aims to overcome difficulti­es, provide the necessary facilities and simplify procedures to enhance the contributi­on of government companies in providing new jobs for Omanis.

Officials in government companies expressed their willingnes­s to present replacemen­t and follow-up plans to provide job opportunit­ies for the national workforce and contribute to the stability, support and regulation of the labour market.

The meeting also discussed the difficulti­es and challenges faced by companies and the private sector in light of the economic conditions to find possible solutions and facilitate procedures that require regulation­s and renewal in private sector establishm­ents.

The meeting also reviewed ways to enhance cooperatio­n between the ministry and the firms towards augmenting productivi­ty.

Besides replacing expats, it was proposed to focus on the employment of Omanis with specialist or technical qualificat­ions in a manner that ensures the accomplish­ment of Oman Vision 2040 goals.
