Oman Sustainability Week to support Vision 2040

Muscat - Under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Oman Sustainability Week was launched through a collaboration between Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), be’ah, Omanexpo and Ubar Conferences.

Oman Sustainability Week is a national platform that aims to highlight Oman’s commitment to sustainability leadership through innovative strategies aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and engage the national development stakeholders to present Oman as a new model for sustainable development.

Bringing together key stakeholders – policy makers, sustainability experts and industry leaders - the event is a weeklong series of activities that includes: OSW Expo – Open to both business professionals and consumers, the three-day exhibition will showcase a broad array of both international and Omani businesses who offer products and services to facilitate sustainable living. ISRTC Conference – The International Sustainability Resources & Technology Conference (ISRTC) aims to connect local and global stakeholders across academia, industry and the public sector to foster constructive debate and enhance cross-collaboration, while a three-day conference is based on a scientific programme focused on many areas such as sustainable resource management, circular economy and environmental responsibility. OSW Awards – This prestigious awards ceremony will recognise both businesses and individuals for their contribution to sustainable living in the sultanate. OSW Site Visits – Excursions will allow individuals to gain a first-hand insight into some of the existing sustainable projects of the sultanate.

Oman Vision 2040 seeks to elevate the sultanate to the position of advanced nations. The economy and development of Oman is heavily dependent on oil and gas resources accounting for 68 per cent to 85 per cent of government revenue. Hence, the major role of the energy sector to contribute to the future sustainability and diversity of the economy will be a key highlight of Oman Sustainability Week.

Oman Sustainability Week will provide a forum for international and local knowledge, investment opportunities and best practices in sustainability in relation to energy, water and environmental prospects.

The event will foster a lasting legacy in the business community and residents in shifting the culture towards a sustainable lifestyle and development that will aid meeting the commitment in 2030 SDGs and Oman Vision 2040.

Oman Sustainability Week will take place from November 29 to December 1, 2021.
