MSX rises 0.16%; volumes down

The benchmark index of the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) rose by 0.16 per cent to close at 3,725.87 points on Monday.

Trading activity deteriorat­ed from the previous session as turnover declined 34.53 per cent to RO2.69mn and volumes fell 6.13 per cent to 17.04mn shares.

The gains in the main index were supported by all the subindices. Financial index rose 0.3 per cent, Industrial index climbed 0.55 per cent and Services index rose 0.63 per cent. The MSX Shariah Index closed up by 0.22 per cent at 858.27 points.

Market breadth remained positive as 21 companies closed up, while nine companies closed down. The rest 14 traded stocks closed flat for the day.

Top gainers were Voltamp Energy (6.4 per cent), Oman Cables Industries (4.91 per cent), Al Anwar Investment (4.4 per cent) and Al Maha Ceramics (3.61 per cent). Top losers were Oman Investment & Finance Co (-2.5 per cent), Galfar Engineerin­g & Contractin­g (-2.13 per cent), Ahli Bank (-1.87 per cent), Al Anwar Ceramic Tiles (-1.79 per cent).
