Duqm Refinery project more than 80% completed

-

The sultanate’s ambitious Duqm Refinery project has achieved a project completion rate of more than 80 per cent until the end of March 2021, according to Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company (OQ8).

In its monthly project progress update, OQ8 said that the refinery project has exceeded 81 per cent completion rate by the end of March, up from 79.9 per cent completion rate reported in February this year.

OQ8 said that the refinery project has consumed 404,600 cubic metres of concrete and 1,550 tonnes of steel foundations have been used till the end of March 2021.

The project has recorded 106.2mn man-hours so far as around 23,000 workers work for the project.

Once completed, the Duqm Refinery will get 65 per cent of its crude volume from Kuwait, while Omani crude will account for 35 per cent of total refining capacity. Both Omani and Kuwaiti crude oil will be stored at Ras Markz Oil Storage Park.

OQ8 is a joint venture between OQ and Kuwait Petroleum International. This is the largest ever investment project between two GCC countries in the refineries and petrochemical sector.

Earlier this year, Oman’s OQ and Kuwait Petroleum International (Q8) unveiled OQ8, the new brand identity for the Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company.

Occupying an allocated 900 hectares of land, the Duqm Refinery will have the capacity to produce 230,000 barrels per day to become the largest oil refinery in Oman.
