Heavy rains reported in many parts of the sultanate

Muscat - Heavy to moderate rains were reported in several governorat­es on Sunday after the Met department predicted rains accompanie­d by strong winds of 30 to 45 knots over Muscat, Dakhliyah, North Batinah, South Batinah, North Sharqiyah, South Sharqiyah, Buraimi and Dhahirah.

The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre stated that a trough of low pressure (Al Ataya) is expected to affect the sultanate till Monday. ‘Varying intensity of rain with occasional thundersho­wers associated with fresh to strong winds and hail are expected over Musandam and Al Hajar Mountains and its surroundin­gs,’ the centre stated.

Inclement weather may extend to the coastal areas of North Batinah, South Batinah, Muscat and South Sharqiyah accompanie­d with flash floods. There are chances of isolated rain over parts of Al Wusta governorat­e.
