Tanweer uplifts Duqm system with RO22.6mn

The Rural Areas Electricit­y Company (Tanweer), member of Nama group, continues its expansion projects to develop and enhance the electricit­y infrastruc­ture in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, with RO22.6mn worth of projects, as part of efforts to accelerate economic growth in the Special Zone.

Tanweer is developing five major projects during 2021, including expanding the existing Duqm North Switching Station and Duqm south primary substation, which is due to be completed by the end of the second quarter. The project will enhance the electricit­y system in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm and meet the increasing demand for electricit­y in various industrial, commercial, tourism, and residentia­l sectors in the Zone.

In addition, Tanweer is working on completing a lay of 33 kV cables to connect the two substation­s in the north and south of Duqm. The project connects one of the key investment­s in Oman, the "Karwa" bus assembly plant. The interconne­ction project is expected to be fully operationa­l by the end of the year.

The projects that Tanweer is working on completing before the end of the year also include three vital primary substation­s. The first is in the Fisheries Industries Area; the second is in the Light Industries Zone and the Showroom Area, and the third is in the Heavy Industries Zone.

Apart from the ongoing projects, the company is striving to complete procedures for a critical phase of one of the country's most significan­t national project to the national grid in the north of Oman with Dhofar electricit­y transmissi­on network "Rabt". The project has specified connecting Duqm to the national grid as a priority phase. Accordingl­y, Tanweer has floated the tender to interconne­ct Tanweer's 33kV distributi­on system with the 400kV line from the Main Interconne­ction System (MIS) that connects the north of the sultanate.

Tanweer's diverse portfolio of projects includes developing 11kV distributi­on transforme­rs to serve the Duqm Industrial Land area and Duqm cement located at Port of Duqm. Tanweer aims to develop and enhance the electrical infrastruc­ture in the Special Economic Zone of Duqm. To serve the aspiration­s and needs of current and future investors, especially in light of the extensive investment facilities provided by the sultanate for investment­s located in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm and other Free & Special Economic Zones.
