A robotics workshop based on a NASA programme and curriculum designed for specially abled children, mainly neuro-diverse learners, was held recently.

Facilitated by Oman Down Syndrome Association, Edutech4Space (Dubai) and Prakramika Vocational Institute (India), the workshop was supported by Eshraqa Khimji Ramdas.

The workshop employed materials and instructions developed by NASA’s neuro-diversity network.

Speaking at the event, Nailesh Khimji, director of Khimji Ramdas, said, “This workshop showcasing space science is expected to empower children with neurodiverse ailment and help them lead a dignified life with their counterparts. At Eshraqa, we strongly believe in supporting charitable organisations, especially those related to children and education. It is an honour for us to be associated with Oman Down Syndrome Association's robotics workshop.”

During the workshop, an environment conducive to encouraging and supporting STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) was created by experts. STEM nurtures students of all abilities.

On the occasion, Dr Gayatri Narasimhan, founder and director of Prakramika Vocational Institute, said, “Every human being has enormous potential to reach the maximum and we all, including the neuro-diverse community, have talents. As a society, we need to come together and provide the right circumstances and opportunities for them to give their best.”

Also present at the workshop was Shrisudha Viswanathan, a scientist who earlier worked with Indian Space Research Organisation, and is founder and CEO of Edutech4Space.
