Efforts underway to restore services impacted by rains
Muscat - The Basic Services Sector (BSS) has stated that efforts are being exerted across North Batinah and Musandam governorates to open roads and restore electrical and telecommunication services, among others, which were affected by adverse weather last week.
According to BSS, as of Sunday 97 per cent of asphalt roads and 95 per cent of dirt roads affected by the inclement weather were opened in North Batinah.
‘In Musandam, 95 per cent of asphalt roads and 84 per cent of dirt roads have been restored. While 99 per cent of telecommunications services in the governorate are up, work is underway on Lima stations.’
In a statement, BSS said that the road sector - represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) and municipalities of the respective wilayats – is continuing work to restore roads damaged during the rains. ‘Priority is given to roads vital for commercial and economic activities.’
MTCIT has formed an emergency technical team for the immediate repair and restoration of rain-hit roads in Musandam.
H E Sayyid Ibrahim bin Saeed al Busaidi, governor of Musandam, inspected the wilayats affected by the rains on Saturday accompanied by H E Dr Ali bin Amer al Shedani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology in MTCIT, and Saeed bin Humaid al Harthy, Wali of Khasab. They inspected the condition of the roads and the efforts of the municipality to this end.
Their visit included an examination of the damage caused to roads in the wilayat of Madha, internal roads and infrastructure in the niyabat of Lima in the wilayat of Khasab, and internal roads in the wilayat of Dibba.
BSS also affirmed efforts to restore electricity supply through coordination with licensed companies, Royal Air Force of Oman and Royal Oman Police.
The communications sector, represented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, has embarked on restoring services in Musandam.
