Sayyid Asaad to attend Arab Summit in Algeria

Muscat - Delegated by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Internatio­nal Relations and Cooperatio­n Affairs and Personal Representa­tive of His Majesty the Sultan, will leave on Monday for the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to chair the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation in the 31st Arab Summit, due to be held in the capital Algiers on November 1 and 2.

Sayyid Asaad will be accompanie­d by an official delegation comprising Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, Dr Abdullah Mohammed al Sa’eedi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Dr Said Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy, Sheikh Khalifa Ali al Harthy, Undersecre­tary for Diplomatic Affairs in the Foreign Ministry, Abdullah Nassir al Rahbi, Ambassador of Oman to Egypt and its Permanent Representa­tive to the Arab League, Saif Nasir al Badai, Ambassador of Oman to Algeria, and the two advisors at the Office of Sayyid Asaad.

Speaking in Algiers a day before the summit, Ahmed AboulGheit, Secretary-general of the Arab League, said that food security and the Palestinia­n issue will be on top of the agenda of the summit.

In his opening remarks at the proceeding­s of the foreign ministers' preparator­y meeting for the Arab League Summit, AboulGheit urged the Palestinia­n factions to implement the Algiers Declaratio­n signed two weeks ago in Algiers in a bid to reach real reconcilia­tion.

He further noted that the summit in Algiers “should be a milestone for brand new joint Arab action”.
