Algiers, Algeria - The 31st session of the Arab League concluded in Algeria on Wednesday seeking common ground on several divisive issues in the region. The meeting was held in the backdrop of rising inflation, food and energy shortages, drought and soaring cost of living across the Middle East and Africa.

The summit concluded with a joint declaration that emphasised the importance of reinforcing ties between Arab states in order to face challenges hampering the region’s development.

The declaration included the importance of standing up against all forms of interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries, and extending support to countries facing political crises, such as Libya, Lebanon and Yemen.

Arab leaders also expressed support for the Palestinian cause, emphasising their determination to continue to back the country in its struggle to achieve independence after facing decades of apartheid and violence.

The next, 32nd session, of the Arab Summit will be held in Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Saudi Foreign Affairs Minister, announced.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired the session on the second day, which focused on political, security and economic challenges in the region and ways to achieve unity.

The consultative session was followed by a public working session and a second closed working session in order to adopt and discuss the draft agenda, as well as adoption of draft resolutions and the draft Algeria Declaration.

The summit concluded with a public session in which the Arab League SecretaryGeneral read out the Algeria Declaration.

Delegated by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty, chaired the sultanate’s delegation at the summit.

Tunisian President Kais Saied, whose country hosted the last summit in 2019, said that the summit's slogan ‘Reunion’ sums up the hope to overcome all differences that led to discord in the Arab region.

The summit discussed several topics and issues of interest to the Arab nation, including political developments relating to the Palestinian cause, initiatives to counter food security, and developments in Libya and Yemen, and Arab security cooperation.
