New Indo-chinese restaurant opens in Markaz al Bahja
Serving 55 varied Chinese dishes, the Hakkai Restaurant in Markaz al Bahja food court is the newest option for Muscat’s foodies. Husband-wife duo of Inder and Namrata Menghani, who opened the restaurant, claim it caters to every kind of taste bud.
Namrata informed that she had always dreamt of starting a Chinese restaurant, and having worked with some of the leading restaurants in Muscat, she was aware of a gap in the market. “I understand that the Indian and fast food categories are over-saturated. What the market lacks is an Indo-chinese restaurant. Hence the concept of Hakkai came up - an extension of our key objective to serve good food to customers who have a penchant for Indo-chinese cuisine.”
She described consumers in Seeb as “more experimental with food and comfort food has always been their favourite”.
The restaurant has two chefs specialised in Chinese cuisine. Some of the dishes on Hakkai’s menu that have been popular since the opening are momos, hakka noodles and Kung pao chicken.
Namrata bills ‘Make your own Wok’ as Hakkai’s USP; it allows guests to make their rice and noodles to their taste, with sauces, spices and proteins of their choice. The wok box is easy
to carry and eat anywhere, even on-the-go. Other items on the menu worth trying are the Thai curry bowl, pan fried momos, steam dumplings and golden fried prawns. All ingredients are locally sourced.
Explaining the restaurant’s tagline ‘Nothing fancy, just good Chinese food’, Namrata said, “Our main emphasis is to provide customers delicious, lip-smacking and satisfying food.”
