56 aflaj in N Sharqiyah being restored at a cost RO409,000
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) is currently undertaking maintenance and restoration work of 56 aflaj in North Sharqiyah.
Salim bin Saud al Kindi, Director of Directorate General of
Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Sharqiyah, informed that the aflaj are spread over several wilayats of the governorate. “This restoration work will cost over RO409,000.”
Of the 56 aflaj being restored, 29 in the wilayat of Dima Wa al Taien, ten in Ibra, six in Al Qabil, four each in Mudhaibi and Wadi Bani Khalid, and three in Bidiyah.
According to Kindi, the aflaj maintenance and restoration project aims to support farmers and improve irrigation services.
Oman has 4,112 aflaj spread over its governorates.
