Sanvira Carbon's Ro60mn plant inaugurate­d in Sohar

Sanvira Carbon (FZC) Company's calcined petroleum coke plant, which has been developed

with an investment of over Ro60mn, was inaugurate­d at Sohar Freezone on Sunday.

The inaugurati­on ceremony was held under the auspices of H

E Eng Salim Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, according to an Oman News

Agency report.

The plant has a production capacity of 600,000 tonnes per annum of calcined petroleum coke and 24 megawatts of electricit­y annually through produced steam.

The calcined petroleum coke plant has been developed by Sanvira Carbon (FZC), which is a joint venture between India's Sanvira Industries, Oman National Investment Developmen­t

Company (Tanmia) and Omani chemicals manufactur­ing firm United Business Trading.

Sanvira Industries is one of the leading manufactur­ers of calcined petroleum coke.

Sanvira Carbon's plant is the first of its kind in the sultanate that transforms petroleum coke into a product of high industrial value, which is used in aluminum industries and several other mining industries.

The project will provide 200 employment opportunit­ies for

Omani youth. Omanisatio­n at the plant is planned to be increased to 50 per cent in the next five years.

Sanvira Carbon plant is an addition to the petrochemi­cals and aluminum sectors in Oman by attracting advance technologi­es and creating employment opportunit­ies. The project will target both local and exports markets. GCC demand for calcined petroleum coke stands at 1.5mn

tonnes annually.
