MOHERI hosts a two-day workshop on robotics
The Ministry of Higher Educa
tion, Research and Innovation (MOHERI) organised a robotics workshop as part of the student
training programme of the Skills Development Programme for Researchers and Innovators on Friday and Saturday at the Social Centre at Innovation Park Muscat in cooperation with the Innovation Cell Centre.
Thirty Omani students aged 13 to 16 years old participated in the robotics workshop this past weekend. Based on achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040 in the innovation field, the workshop aimed to develop the participants’ abilities to challenge and compete in the research, creativity and innovation fields.
The workshop included a number of challenges as well as participation certificates and some prizes for those who did well during the two-day workshop.
The workshop covered three topics: Brainstorming strategies, design and printing, and pro
gramming. For the brainstorming strategies section, it was presented by Habiba al Kindi, and included an introduction to brainstorming, stages of brainstorming, basic rules for brainstorming, brainstorming methods, and limitation of brainstorming.
For the design and printing
section, the participants were taught the basics of 3D design of robots using Fusion360 programme, which was presented by Ghada al Nasiri, and the correct way to use the 3D printer for the designed shapes and their readiness to install them in the robot, which was presented by Othman bin Saif.
As for the programming section, it was presented by Hajar al Nasiri, and consisted of teaching the students the basics of programming robots using the C++ language as well as the installa
tion of the programming parts in the composite robot and drawing a path to examine its programming.
The student training programme aims to keep pace with the rapid development witnessed by the world around us in how to deal with the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the Internet of
Things, and build the national capabilities of members of the society, especially the national capabilities of students.
It is worth noting that the Skills Development Programme
for Researchers and Innovators is one of the programmes of the Department of Research and Innovation Capacity Building in the Research and Innovation Sector of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, which aims to promote a culture of research and innovation among members of the society, maximise the skills and capabili
ties of researchers, innovators and those interested, and enhance youth capabilities in future skills.
