Dante Alighieri confirms sultanate’s first official Italian language centre at Al Mouj
Società Dante Alighieri or the Dante Alighieri Society - that promotes Italian culture and language around the world - has confirmed opening of the first Italian language centre of Oman at Al Mouj in Muscat.
The Global Education Services (GES Quality Education) a leading Omani private education group in the sultanate, will be the partner of Società Dante Alighieri (La Dante’s), said a press release.
While announcing this on Tuesday, the institute said the initiative comes under the auspices of the Embassy of Italy and the Italian-omani Friendship Association (TOIFA).
The memorandum of understanding will combine GES’S education sector experience with La Dante’s commitment to making the Italian language more accessible in Oman.
The opening of the centre will further boost the bilateral relations between the two countries through stimulation of knowledge and growth of educational, cultural, and scientific exchanges between international educational institutions of the two nations. The centre will be located at the heart of Al Mouj Muscat Development Project.
Italian Ambassador H E Federica Favi highlighted how “this marks a turning point in our cultural relations with Oman, mak
ing Italian language closer for the
Omani public” as yet another tool for economic diversification. “Learning Italian will open new opportunities to young Omanis in many fields to learn more about our country, our education and our technology, and to get certified professional skills that can be spent in growing sectors like tourism or engineering.”

La Dante was established in Italy in 1889 with a network in
more than 80 countries around the world.
The Omani authorities welcomed and approved the opening of an Italian language centre before the pandemic, and now it became a reality, which will fi
nally give the opportunity to Omanis to get an official certification of Italian language profi
ciency directly in Muscat.
