Author Bushra Khalfan made Oman
proud after she won the 8th Katara Prize for Arabic Fiction in Qatar in October 2022 for her novel titled ‘Dilshad: A Biography of Hunger and Satiation.’
Bushra's novel was also shortlisted for the 15th edition of International Prize for Arabic Fiction, the most prestigious literary prize in the Arab world
and often referred to as the ‘Arabic Booker’. Dil
shad is set in Muscat, the capital of Oman, in the first half of the twentieth century and the story is divided into three parts, each named after a district of the city.
The novel presents social tales overlapping a bygone era and foreshadowing a social reality, mirroring the history of Muscat, its villages, and its people from different backgrounds under seemingly harsh conditions.
