ISWK win CBSE under-19 girls football

Indian School Al Wadi Kabir (ISWK) won the CBSE Cluster Under-19 Girls Football tourna

ment held on November 8 with the host Indian School Muscat (ISM) losing at the final 2-0.

There were six teams in the fray, in the U-19 Girls category,

from six CBSE affiliated schools in Oman. Each one of them was in a frenzy to prove better than

the opponent to lift the coveted trophy at the CBSE Cluster 2022.

The first round of the knockout matches of all the U-19 teams was played in the morning. In the first match, Indian School Muscat (ISM) defeated Indian School Al Maabela (ISAM) by 4-2 goals. Indian School Al Ghubra (ISG) beat Indian School Darsait (ISD)

in the second match by scoring three goals.

The U-19 teams that won the first round in the morning fought for a berth in the semifinals in the

afternoon. The first semi-final in was played between Indian School Al Wadi Kabir (ISWK) and Indian School Bousher (ISB), while the second semifinal was played between Indian School Al Ghubra (ISG) and the host Indian

School Muscat (ISM).

In the one-sided match, ISWK defeated ISB 6-1 and qualified proudly for the final match. In another hard-fought match in the same category, ISM defeated ISG 2-1, to reach the final.

The final U-19 matches that were played in the afternoon gave some hair raising moments to the spectators. ISWK and the host ISM team fought neck to neck in the final. The match witnessed beautiful manoeuvres of the ball by both teams. It was a moment for jubilation for the ISWK team when they edged the host by taking a 2-0 lead. The highlight of their victory was the stupendous saves by their goalkeeper.

The guest of honour, of the day’s function, Zainudheen C, Vice Chair, ISM Purchase Sub

committee, expressed his pleasant surprise to see the girls playing football beyond his expectatio­ns. He urged the students to continue playing football, for it ensures physical, mental and moral fitness of a person. He appreciate­d the visionary leader, Principal Dr Rajeev Kumar Chauhan and the

school management for giving adequate importance to both academics and outdoor games.

After the speech, Zainudheen gave away the medals, the run

ners-up and winner’s trophies, and expressed his gratitude to the six participat­ing teams.

ISM obtained the runners-up trophy, while ISWK lifted the winner’s trophy. Indian School Bousher (ISB) and Indian School Ghubra (ISG), who shared second place, received their medals.

The event came to an end with a group photo with the guest of

honour and other officials.
