Sayyid Bilarab to inaugurate Liwa model city today

As part of the celebratio­ns marking the 52nd National Day, H H Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham al Said will preside over a ceremony marking the opening of Liwa Model Residentia­l City.

The city, located close to Al Batinah Expressway and covering an area of 12mn sqm, has been built to accommodat­e 30,000 residents. It boasts of a broad range of services and facilities, including 1,300 housing units and around 3,400 single and double residentia­l units. The city is designed to cater to 50,000 residents and visitors in the future.

The project in the Naber area includes government schools, places of worship, a health centre, power generation stations, two fuel stations, parks, playground­s and land for commercial establishm­ents including malls.

Carried out by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the city constitute­s a comprehens­ive model for sustainabl­e cities. Its developmen­t is based on interactiv­e participat­ion among the government department­s concerned and public service providers. It witnessed direct participat­ion from society in all its stages of planning and design.

H E Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shuaili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, affirmed that the new city is a model city with integrated facilities and services, and constitute­s an example for implementi­ng sustainabl­e and modern urban planning policies.

He added that the city fulfills the goals and requiremen­ts of the urban strategy of Oman.
