Nepalis take part in walkathon to celebrate 52nd National Day

More than 400 people took part in a 3km long walk to commemorat­e the 52nd National Day of Oman at a congregati­on of the members of the Nepali community on Friday evening.

Organised by the Embassy of Nepal along with the members of the local Nepali Social Club, the Walkathon 2022 started at the Nepali Embassy and ended at Qurm Beach. The march was led by Dornath Aryal, the Ambassador of Nepal to Oman; his wife Swodesh; besides the embassy staff including the first secretary Somesh Thapa; labour attaché Dinesh Dhakal and financial attaché Anil Rana.

There was also a presentati­on by Nepali traditiona­l musical band Panche Baja and dances by colourfull­y decked community members in various traditiona­l attires of their country. Other participan­ts of the walkathon wore a T-shirts designed in the flag colours of the two countries with cross flags of Nepal-oman and slogan ‘Long Live NepalOman Relations’.

“The Walkathon 2022 is a reminder of our strong people to people relationsh­ip between the two countries,” ambassador Aryal said. “This is a great occasion to celebrate the 52nd National Day of the sultanate. We have participan­ts from the Nepali community and it was quite refreshing and motivating for all of us.” He extended best wishes for good health and happiness of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, as well as continued peace, progress, and prosperity of Oman.

Badr al Sama Hospital provided an ambulance for emergency, while Royal Oman Police provided escorts and security services during the programme.
