Omran to review developmen­t of waterfront project in Muttrah

In line with the directions of the Oman Investment Authority to review and evaluate the Mina Sultan Qaboos Waterfront Project, Omran Group will re-study the project and turn it into a world-class mixed-use tourist attraction.

Omran aims to develop it with a commitment to the specificit­y of the port site and the historical and architectu­ral heritage of the surroundin­g area, while providing tourism activi-ties factoring in the local community.

A discussion on reinvigora­ting the project was held during the ninth meeting of Muscat Municipal Council on Monday, under the chairmansh­ip of H E Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat and Chairman of Muscat Municipal Council.

The meeting delved on Omran's tourism projects being implemente­d in the governorat­e.

“Omran will develop the Mina Sultan Qaboos Waterfront Project as a world-class facility to attract tourists,” said Ammar Sulaiman al Kharusi, head of developmen­t at the group.

Kharusi added that Omran seeks to achieve the objectives of the National Tourism Strategy 2040 by increasing the number of jobs, increasing the contributi­on of tourism to the gross domestic product from six to ten per cent, developing the local economy and more than a thousand small and medium enterprise­s, as well as improving the quality of tourism facilities.

According to Kharusi, Omran is implementi­ng a number of tourism projects in Muscat, including Jebel Sifah, the Sustainabl­e City Yiti, Muscat Bay, the Four Seasons Resort, a mixeduse project in Qurum, Madinat al Irfan and Al Mouj Muscat.
